Oops

Sorry I realize I haven't posted anything in ages. School sucks.

This is like gossiping to the internet but it's kind of a hilarious story, in a cynical way.
The other day I was walking back from P.E. and all of a sudden this Asian girl (I mean "Asian" Asian, like she actually lived in Asia for 10 years) came up to me and was like
You know, you should visit Taiwan sometime.
And I was like
O_o Ok..
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Taiwan, but this was so random. This next part is so confusing. I wasn't sure if I should have been irritated or glad that someone brought this kind of idiotic joy into my life.
Taiwan has so many more interesting places than China.
And I was like
T_T Are you for real
No actually I was more like
"^^ Heh.. Lemme take a quick poll. *grabs kid nearest to me* Hey, so which country do you think has more interesting places, Taiwan or China?
And then the Asian Asian girl tried to undo what she just said.
Oh but no offense though. It's just my personal opinion.
Yeah well if it's personal, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Seriously, I don't mind if she's all like "Taiwan pride! Taiwan FTW! Taiwan's the best island in the world!" because it's her home. People are allowed to do that. What people shouldn't be allowed to do, however, is deem another country inferior to his/her own. Especially since it's China vs. Taiwan in terms of interesting places. I'm probably biased so let me offer you a third opinion on this.
Nearest kid to me: Uh.. well in in terms of geographical size, I would have to go to with China.
See? I don't know what comes to your mind when you think "places" but I think historical monuments, museums, malls, cafes, etc. Based on China's size alone, I would think that there are more "places" in China than in Taiwan. Notice that I, unlike that Asian Asian kid, am not saying that Taiwan is inferior to China because Taiwan is smaller, etc. It's a geographical and logical fact that Taiwan has less places than China due to its smaller size. There's nothing wrong with that.

Get this. She keeps going.
Oh I also heard that China's really dirty.
Woman. Get a grip. It's dirty in any country depending on where you go. They all have their classy places and their grungy ones. Fact of life. Also, it's not that you hear it. China is dirty. It's a huge country with 1.3 billion people for Christ's sake. You try keeping land that size spotless. So this is what I discussed with the poor kid I dragged into this.
But it's not over yet.
I heard people spit on the ground in China. *while covering mouth with hand and trying to make this seem all hush-hush. And she gasps at the end. I mean literally gasps.*
And this is what was playing in my head:
!@#$%^$%&^$%#
This is a joke right? You're from Taiwan. You can't possibly tell me that NO ONE spits on the ground in Taiwan. Also, don't try to characterize this as a Chinese thing. You know all people do it. Admit it. So you can either lie or prove yourself to be an idiot. And remember one last thing. YOU'RE NOT TAIWANESE. You're freakin Chinese whose ancestors got kicked out of China during the civil war. You said so yourself. "I'm actually Chinese." Don't identify yourself as mainland Chinese one second and turn around and bag on China the next. Please realize that Taiwan actually has native people. They can say that they're Taiwanese.
Of course I didn't really say this out loud. I just tried to pretend she didn't exist. It was hard. She had the nerve to hang around my locker to talk to me about the number of people in our class going to the college panel that night. Or something equally insignificant.

So yeah that was like the only interesting thing that happened this week. This is why I can't stand "Asian Asians." Most of them anyway. They have this crazy ego and some insane need to mock others. The one thing they don't teach in Asia: how to make casual conversation.

I'm mad

Actually, I'm kind of scared. So this year, I decided to be motivated (and by motivated I mean stupid and sleep-deprived) and take accelerated chem when I knew I was going to take accelerated calc and physics. Kids, don't try this at home. It's dangerous. It's the first week of school, right, and we have a chem test less than a week from today. Last year, no one in the accelerated chem class passed the first test. He didn't throw it out or anything, he was just like, ok everybody you get the next 50 minutes to revise your test. Annnd.. GO. I'm guessing that was about enough time to get a B (or maybe if you're lucky an A). But I'm Asian. So that's not good enough.

However, he does give out plenty of extra credit. If you're willing to write a 2-3 page essay every week. On top of all the calc hw (which I've heard is, like, 10 hours a week for the smartest guy in the class) and other stuff. Yes, I'm one of those people who will probably end up staying up until some ungodly hour just to get that EC. Because I need that A.

In a nutshell, we read a chapter a week ('bout 40-ish pages), do 30 or so problems (which usually include parts a, b, c, d for each problem) then take a test or do a project. Oh, right, can't forget about the extra credit. As Rebecca Black would say, fun fun fun fun :)

No, I was being sarcastic.

And the best part is, I can't even drop this class if I wanted to. I know for sure I'm going to end up in a math/science field. I am soo not a humanities person. I can't write (well) or recall significant events in history to save my life. Basically anything I want to do in the future will most likely involve chemistry to some extent. I guess I just have to learn to live with it.

P.S. No, accelerated chem is not AP chem. All the classes at our school are already supposed to be AP. So I suppose accelerated chem is like AP AP chem? O.o

The Last of the Mohicans

I can't stand this book. If it wasn't for the fact that we have a test on it the second day of school I wouldn't spend my last week of summer freedom reading this. First of all, why would you give a guy two names? And never obviously point out that they're the same guy? I mean, I can kind of see that when he's called Major Heyward he seems more military-like and when he's called Duncan he's more normal or whatever, but why complicate things? Just call him Major Duncan. Then you get both connotations. And drop the "major" when you want him to seem less harsh. Also, it annoys the crap out of me that characters just pop out of nowhere. So this group of men are canoeing down a river for a chapter, then all of a sudden the colonel appears in the boat the chapter after. There was absolutely no mention of the colonel anywhere in the previous chapter. And then the word "colonel" just shows up on the page. I mean WTF. Entonces, his name virtually disappears from the chapter. Does that make any sense? Why mention him in the scene if he only says like one line, and of little significance??

Last thing, DESCRIPTIONS. It's like all novels before the 21st century are half story, half unnecessary, unrelated descriptions. For example, one scene in Last of the Mohicans includes a third of a page describing a guy who's dozing off, hears his friend making "shushing" sounds, mistakes it for the sound of a snake, wakes up, then realizes it isn't, and falls back asleep. Then following that passage, there's a small passage describing how his nostrils flare when he's sleeping or something.

I wish the author was still alive so I can ask him why he put in all this random stuff. It's like making a perfectly good BLT sandwich, then adding peanut butter and kimchi. It doesn't make sense and it probably isn't very enjoyable.

Hungry

And there wasn't much in the house. So I made lemon cookies covered in crushed cereal. Fresh out of the oven! Could've used a little more lemon rind. But they're still good. ^^

Btw isn't Super Junior's new song strange? "Mr. Simple". Yeah right SuJu is not simple. If they were they wouldn't be as amazing as they are today. And the whole "naughty naughty" thing was kind of random.

Man what the..?!

I've seen a lot of.. "elaborate" Asian guy outfits, but this has got to be the most "elaborate". Why is he dressed like a girl??? I can live with the skinny jeans and maybe even the jumpers, but this is just NO.

P.S. I'm sorry to whoever is in the photo. I hope you didn't choose this outfit yourself. If you did, I'm just sorry.

Douban

Douban.fm! My latest discovery. It's this Chinese online radio thing that plays Cpop, Kpop, Jpop, Fpop (? French music, whatever it's called), American stuff, classical, etc. It pretty much has everything. And it has an iPod app, Mac app, and Android app. My life is complete. Not really. Ok.
So anyways, it's amazing. I found this song by Hou Xian that reminds me of Jay Chou. Yeah, he even mumbles. :) Or maybe that just what Chinese people sound like when they rap?

24

I've recently been addicted to 24. Just a quick plot summary-- Counter-Terrorist Unit investigator (or something like that. What do you call those people anyway?) Jack Bauer attacks/gets chased by terrorists. Each season has 24 episodes, each episode plays events that occurred in 1 hour in a day of Jack's life. Eg. ep. 1: 12:00 AM-1:00AM. I never thought a second-by-second account of a person's life would be so interesting to watch. But on the other hand, don't these people ever sleep? There are 8 seasons, so they haven't slept in over a week? Anyways, the show's good so I won't complain. Although there is one scene where you can see the cameraman hovering on the side.. haha.. Wish I caught a screenshot of that.

ALSO. I discovered a weibo that calls itself "Archive of Hot Guys' Photos" or something along those lines. There are a ton of photos of Lee Minho and Suju. If only the photos were labelled, then I could do some Asian idol stalking lol. No jk I have a life. Sort of.

Look who I found! Isn't he the cutest? ^^

Who is he?? He looks like a doll

This gal is bored

I sound like a hick. But I'm serious. I'm at the vet med internship and everyone else is busy dissecting the pigs so I can't work on my ringworm. I'm kind of sad. That's an odd statement.

Oh! And 2PM's new MV came out! I don't particularly love the song but the MV is pretty exciting. Glad to see an MV without the typical various settings and choreography and that being it. You know what I'm talking about? Like a bright white bg with the guys in black and white suits, and then suddenly change to a dark blue setting and all the guys change costumes and then they just switch between the settings.

SUMMER

IS FINALLY HERE. Just 2 more things: report card and a summer research program thing. I'm interning at the vet med school on campus for a month and I have to discover a DNA primer for ringworms. I'm not even sure what that means.

And there are supposed to be like 12 more girl groups debuting this year in kpop?? Holy crap. I just hope they get better.

Babies and beast

I saw a bunch of different baby animals out during lunch today. Ok maybe not a lot but 2. The baby goose looked like such a fail. He's not black at all. :P And then there were baby bunnies! They're probably newly born since their eyes hadn't quite opened yet. And one pooped on my hand ugh.

B2st's new song "Fiction" is one of the best title tracks I've heard so far this year. And the mv for it was awesome. The guy totally disintegrates at the end.

Finals next week! Gahh! Only 5 finals this semester instead of 6, but the chem final got replaced with 3 ridiculous projects where he gives us a substance and four possible identities and tells us to use whatever methods we can to identify it. Honestly, I think his projects took longer than the actual final would have. I spent almost no time for the chem final last year but I've spent at least 5 hours on those projects this semester. Fail. And I'm pretty sure I'm gonna end up getting lower grades on the projects than I did on the final. He's picky as Hell-o Kitty.

AsAm Heritage Month

Happy Asian American Heritage Month! Our Asian Media Club made a poster ft. some famous twinkies and Asians of influence here in the Western hemisphere. You can't really see but there's Jay Park, Amber, Jessica, Wang Leehom, Jackie Chan AKA The Chan Chan Man, Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, WongFu, Nigahiga, and of course Kevjumba. Did you know Kevjumba is Taiwanese? I always thought he was mainland. Then again I saw it on Wikipedia. But I use Wiki for most of my research papers so it's probably right hehe..

Chinese restaurants..

The food? Pretty good. I mean the non-Americanized kind anyway. But the sanitation? Blechhhhh. And they always look so messy. What on earth is up with that? I went to what is supposed to be the best Chinese restaurant in our town so there was obviously going to be a lot of people. Well I didn't expect to wait an hour and a half for my food. And you know what? It wasn't even that good. I ordered a bamboo shoot and shredded pork and the bamboo smelled really bad. I think it was because it was canned, but whatever. The point is, it wasn't good. Plus, there were no straws so I had to drink water directly out of the cup. It probably isn't that big of a deal for other people, but I hate using utensils and whatnot other people have used. Yep, an hour and a half wasted. So that was pretty much my Sunday morning.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is on Sunday. O_o Had to get her something since I did like nothing for her birthday last year. Although I have no card because the only way I could get her something without her knowing is if I go the college bookstore on campus, which surprisingly, doesn't sell Mother's Day cards. Anyways I got her a coffee mug even though she already has three but hers are all solid colored and not very exciting. Sooo I got her a very up-beat (are coffee mugs up-beat?) one that's quite spring-y and perfect for the season. And she likes bright colors too. The only problem is it might be too bright for a middle-aged woman...? Idk I'm not good at buying gifts. Plus the cashier didn't give me a receipt and I forgot to ask for one so I can't even return it.

Oh and there are a bunch of marks on the outside. I'm not sure if they're stains or scratches.. Oh well gotta do some insane cleaning on that mug anyway. Can't just drink from anything you buy in stores.

Time top 100

I saw the Time 100 Poll and guess what I'm sensinggg? AZN DOMINAZN. Rain is number one, followed by Jay Chou, and they both beat Lady Gaga was is ranked number 12. The Fukushima Power Plant workers is 15 and Han Han is 18. Han Han is a racecar driver slash author slash blogger. Ambitious kid. The best part of the poll is the Chinese president is ranked 28 and the American 46. Hmm..

Check out the poll: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2058044_2061021_2061023,00.html

Google Global Science Fair

Ughh. It's like ExploraVision all over again. I thought it would be really simple once we collected all of our data, but I didn't realize it would this complicated to sort all of it and make it make sense to the judges. We're testing people's hearing thresholds and trying to determine a relationship between iPod volumes, daily length of iPod usage, and hearing sensitivity. Sounds easy right? Yeah, not really. There are a bunch of other factors like what types of earphones/headphones the subjects use, whether or not they're noise-canceling, whether or not the subjects participate in loud activities, whether or not they use ear protection when they're participating in these activities... I'm gonna go crazy. Oh well. Nighty night.

Someone needs a new stylist..

Remember how much I hated Top Combine's stylist? How s/he made them look like Chinese-ified DBSK? This time, s/he has gone too far. For one thing, the brilliant composer/violinist Mars looks like a Japanese druggie. Wow that sounded kind of racist. I mean he looks Japanese and like a druggie. Nothing wrong with Japanese, but they're one of the first best Chinese bands, can't they look more Chinese? Bird and Kenny have pretty much the same haircuts, and maybe Xiao Wu but I can't really tell because it's always spiked up. The style looks fine on Kenny because it's similar to what he had before, but on Bird.. I don't know, it just doesn't look shun you know? I can't find the English term for it right now; I guess it just doesn't feel right. He doesn't look too bad when his hair is gelled though. Kenny just looks more like a girl, but he looks cute as a girl so I won't complain +] Caesar looks like he has too much hair. I mean, he already has a lot of hair (I think), and now it's all piled up on 3/4 of his head 'cause it's blown to one side or something. Either way, it looks kind of strange. Although he wore a giant headband (which btw not everyone can pull off but he did, somehow) at this one fan meeting and that went pretty well with his outfit. The only makeover I actually approve of his Xiao Wu's. It's drastically different from his cutesy boy image, but... well to put it simply--he looks really hot. It has a reddish tint and kind of a mohawk. It's sort of like G-Dragon's hair during their "Lies" days. And to top it off Xiao Wu has a giant spike through his ear.

Without further ado, Top Combine!

Rookie Updates

Rookie bands releasing new albums through Feb and March +]

First up, Dalmatiann. I wasn't a huge fan of their debut single, "Round 1", but their new album is really good. In my opinion anyway. It's diverse and at first, none of the songs sound too bad. Then they grow on you, kind of like SHINee. Pretty soon you get addicted to them. The two songs they were promoting were "That Man Disapproves" and "Lover Cop".

That Man Disapproves:

Lover Cop:

I'm not sure why, but I like "That Man Disapproves" better. But then again, I haven't really listened to "Lover Cop" that much. First time seeing blue hair in kpop. You get a lot of blondes, maybe a few oranges or reds, but not really blue. I think there should be more blue hair, it looks awesome.

The song I really like (which, unfortunately, is not a promotion song) is "Lost in Love". Overall, Dalmation seems to be a promising boyband. Even through the autotune, you can tell that their rapper is legit and their vocals are pretty strong. Especially the beginning of "Lost in Love" and the wailing part in "That Man Disapproves".

Lost in Love:

Next, Infinite is back with a third singles album, "Inspirit". Their MV for "Nothing's Over" was released yesterday. It's a pretty upbeat song.

Finally, ZE:A. Their title track is "Here I Am", with a bright preppy-boy theme and lots of colorful clothes and skinny jeans and dolls and flowers. This is some kind of new trend in kpop boybands. "That Man Disapproves" is very similar if you compare the two side by side.

These other two songs are kind of growing on me. They have strong beats and are really catchy.

Again..:

UCLA Girl

Oh my. After watching her video I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh at her stupidity or scream at her racism. If you haven't seen it yet, it's basically just this girl from UCLA who rants about her hatred of Asians. On YouTube. Where some of the most popular video-makers are Asian (nigahiga, kevjumba, wongfu, peter chao, david choi just to name a few). And she also goes to UCLA which is filled with Asians. Not a good idea. Asians are piling up in the U.S. And they're obviously going to be pissed. There are tons of video responses from Asians, and other races too. She even got death threats, so she'd better be careful. 1/3 of the world is Asian, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing Asians can't or won't do. Man, we've got ninjas. So for that "Asians can't do anything" comment she made in the video, I hope she doesn't realize her false perception the painful way. Plus, what about the advanced tech gadgets? Has America come up with a 3D phone? I don't think so. And probably the Wal-Mart clothes she had on her back are "Made in China".

The most ironic part? She majors in political science. I'm starting to have my doubts about the quality of UCLA's education. Especially their political science program. Teaching students to be racist sluts? So is that the status quo these days?

I really wanna see kevjumba or nigahiga do a response to this. Peter Chao already has, and it was actually serious for once. A new guy can thank the UCLA girl for his sudden rise to YouTube stardom because I think he got over a million views in 3 days on his video response. She brought out some hidden talent. You know what they say, every cloud has a silver lining.

Strange

These two Asian guys that make fun of JZ and I for listening to Asian music now know more about kpop than we do. Well, in some cases. One if them asked me if GD and Dara are going out, and I didn't even know there was this rumor. Maybe it's just me, idk. But he said that Miss K's "Gee" dance is hilarious. And apparently Miss K is Kyuhyun as a girl. Is that common knowledge too? I mean, I knew Kyu dresses up as a girl sometimes, I just didn't know he had a name for his counterpart and she did SNSD dances. Oh, and he can also do SHINee's "Hello" dance. And identify all the SNSD members (which I can't even do) and he's only been listening to kpop for like a week. Plus, those two keep humming "Hello". It's a great song and I love it, but I'd rather not listen to it 24/7.

But the only reason they're so interested in kpop is because they talk to this pretty, but supposedly evil since I've never met her, girl who loves kpop. The SNSD guy does anyway. And so he likes anything the girl does and doesn't appreciate cpop or mandopop at all. If you're going to listen to Asian music, you can't miss Jay Chou. Seriously. Fortunately, I converted the other guy so yay another azn media lover :) Technically two but the first ones a suck-up. I guess I'll count him though; anything to spread the power of Asian media of course.

It's been a while..

And we've been busy-- but so has kpop idols!! SJM came out with a new mini-album about two weeks ago called "Perfection 太完美" with six tracks, one of which is composed by Jay Chou (XD). It's their first album as reformed group after Hangeng left. I was wondering why one person left SJM, but then they sent two people to replace him? But maybe it's because Hangeng was the dance machine, so that's why Eunhyuk joined, but they also needed a powerful vocal, and that explains Sungmin. Anyways, here's the tracklist.

1. 太完美 (Perfection)
2. 命運線 (Destiny)
3. 幸福微甜 (Love is sweet)
4. 表白 (Off my mind)
5. True Love
6. 吹一樣的風 (My all is in you)

Perfection MV:

A Korean version of this song was also released, which I understand, but then SM released a Taiwanese version? I haven't seen the Taiwanese version, but if it's the same video and still in Mandarin, I don't see the point. Unless SJM redid the song in Taiwanese or something, I just don't understand why a Taiwanese version was released. Either way, even though "Perfection" was the title track, I preferred the other ones, especially Henry's composition "Off My Mind". It sort of reminds me a little bit of Justin Bieber, but it's catchy. Lol his song just started playing on my iPod when I started typing the last sentence. And is it me or is his Taiwanese/Cantonese accent phasing out?

Off My Mind:

Now moving on to one of THE most respected kpop bands of all time-- BIG BANG!! What was it, like a 5-year hiatus? But they all had solo activities so it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, this is only a mini-album since they're planning to release their hits in spurts.

Tonight MV:

Alright since I like all of them and I can't choose my favorite(s), I'll just link the rest.

Somebody to Love
What is Right
Cafe
Hands Up
Intro (Thank You & You)

OK yeah they're out of order. But that doesn't take away the power of Big Bang.

Sushi and such

Julia, another friend and I are teaching a four-day course at our school on Asian food. We made the usual fried rice, dumplings, and today, sushi. Yep everyone loves sushi. We made it seafood-less (except for imitation crab meat) with carrots, cucumbers, and pickled radish. It was then that I realized why God created Asians: to make sushi.

Oh and we put little paper umbrellas on them. Little paper umbrellas go with everything.

It's kinda funny that Sherry saw a Jay Park look a like because I saw a Jay Chou look a like. I would've taken a picture but that's just creepy.
AND Big Bang has officially released their new album!!! I love all of the songs... except one and the into but the intro never counts anyways since it's only a minute long. I love Tonight and Cafe especially.

Jay Park look-alike?

Ok so I was on the college campus and I could've sworn I saw someone who looked just like Jay Park. I would say it was him, but I guess I can't really know for sure since he was speeding by in a car. Plus isn't he supposed to be in Korea working on his new album? Still I wish I got the chance to talk to the guy and tell him he looks like Jay Park.

Kenny pic spam

Just wanted to make a collection of Kenny's photos. He always posts a ton on his weibo. Oh and also one of Prince Huangwei's and Feng.

Prince
Feng (It's not the picture that's funny as much as it was the caption which said something like: Been playing this for four days!)
And this marks the beginning of the Kenny marathon
I love his Doraemon PJ's!
